Jay-Z in 8
October 2026
Documentary series featuring Jay-Z, Rick Rubin and De Wolfe Music
Jay-Z in 8 is a fascinating new documentary series, available now on HBO Max and Amazon Prime.
In the series, Jay-Z sits down with legendary producer Rick Rubin, using tracks from his back catalogue as a starting point for conversations about lyrics, samples and studio techniques.
Along the way, they explore Jay-Z’s childhood, his relationship with The Notorious B.I.G., the history of his rivalry with Nas, his complex relationship with Kanye West (now known as Ye), and the personal stories behind songs.
Simon Hasley’s Hogan’s Thing was sampled by Jay-Z for his 2002 track Don’t You Know, which features in episode four.
